A celebration of sound and venue: the Görög Sisters’ anniversary concert at the Ludus Tonalis Accademia
The audience was treated to a whirlwind of energy and passion during the concert of Noémi and Enikő Görög. Despite their tender age, the two Hungarian sisters have already gained an impressive amount of international experience. They offered a balanced mix of strong lyricism (in the work of Schubert, Andantino op.84) and complex, sophisticated rhythmic pieces (Bartók, Mikrokosmos).
While fully immersed in their performance, the young pianists managed to charm the audience not only by presenting original and expressive ideas, but also by the sheer scope of the performed Ravel’s ‘La Valse. The two players are quite distinctive, one a Mediterranean type, one a Scandinavian, both physically and character wise.
Noémi is the more extraverted of the two, while Enikő is the dreamer, yet on stage they melted into one soul, surpassed their differences by the refined feel and sound of their play. The program included a contemporary Serbian composer, Aleksandar Vujić, who happened to dedicate his four-hand piece «Srpsko kolo» to no other but the Görög Sisters piano duo. «Srpsko kolo» is a folk dance with a focus on the percussive sound.

This stunning cultural event, filled with passion, was held at the elegant hall of the «Ludus Tonalis» Academy in Riano, in the vicinity of Rome, when the hall was celebrating its sixth year since its opening. The directors Sara Dominici and Massimo Perciaccante found themselves in the very center of the double spectacle. The mesmerized audience gave the performers a standing ovation.
After the first encore, the Sisters unexpectedly launched into Brahms’ «Hungarian Dance No. 5», while the concert was rounded off with the «marvelous» and «theatrical» performance of the «Libertango», a true sonic crescendo. That piece was a metaphor for the entire concert. The audience was ceaselessly entranced and under the spell of this exhilarating auditory whirlwind conjured up by these two excellent pianists.
Respect!
